In Greater Victoria, a well-placed solar array produces roughly 1,050 kilowatt-hours per year for every kilowatt installed. A 10 kW system generates around 10,500 kWh annually, a large share of a typical home’s usage. For context, that’s competitive with much of Germany, a country running one of the largest solar fleets on Earth.
Two facts surprise people. First, modern panels produce meaningful power in diffuse light, overcast days still generate, just less. Second, Victoria is actually the sunniest major city in BC, sitting in the Olympic rainshadow with around 2,100 sunshine hours a year, drier and brighter than Vancouver.
