The basics

V2H, V2G, V2L, what the letters mean.

“V2X” is the umbrella term for bi-directional charging. Which one matters to you depends on your goals, here’s the plain-English version.

V2H, Vehicle‑to‑Home

Your EV powers your house. During an outage it feeds electricity back through your system to keep the lights, heat, fridge and Wi-Fi running, turning hours of backup into days.

V2G, Vehicle‑to‑Grid

Where the utility supports it, your car sends stored energy back to the grid at peak times, so you can charge cheap and export when power is worth more.

V2L, Vehicle‑to‑Load

Power tools, appliances or a campsite straight from the car’s outlets, handy for job sites, events, and emergencies, no wiring required.

Why bidirectional

One EV holds several days of home energy.

A typical home battery stores around 10–13 kWh. Many EVs carry 60–130 kWh, several times a house’s daily use. V2X unlocks that capacity for your home.

Bi-directional, the Tesla way.

With Tesla Powershare and a compatible Tesla vehicle, your car can share its battery back to the home through Powerwall, automatically stepping in to extend backup during an outage. It’s whole-home backup that grows with the vehicle in your driveway.

The Sigenergy SigenStor integrates EV DC charging and V2X directly into its modular stack: a single, expandable system for solar, storage and bi-directional charging, and it’s eligible for the BC Hydro battery rebate.
